Thanks Robert, Well, as gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise." Apple, in its infinite wisdom now turns on "Show Apple Music Features" even though it has never been turned on before. I unchecked that option, which is found in settings, general preferences just after the library name. I restored the sound for iTunes in my sound scheme, and no annoying sounds yet. I'm updating some apps, so I should hear it only when the apps are done updating.
Thanks again Robert for mentioning that. I love Apple's work on accessibility for the devices, but I find turning options on that have never been turned on by the user quite irritating. I've never used anything but CD I have imported myself. I personally do not use any subscription music service and I back up to my computer, not the cloud. But, who knows what settings may have been changed by Apple.
