Hi,

Here is a warning for all Outlook.com users who may receive a message stating
it's from Outlook.
This is not a real Microsoft message but probably a phishing attempt as the
address that looks fairly authentic goes to a totally different URL.
What gives it away except for the weird email address is the fact that in the
email are links for "Boxing Week Blowout" and "Save 60% on reclining sofas"
etc. Microsoft of course would never have anything like that in an email.
What makes it worse on the other hand is the fact that Microsoft is going
through such an upgrade and is sending out real messages asking to follow some
steps, but the thing is that these involve actual Outlook settings and the real
email does not have any links asking you to click somewhere and log in.

When you first come across it in the Inbox it looks like this:
outlookteam.e-mail.msg.22784.server2278442...@aspiriant.com
Outlook Group - New Message (ID: 22L3)
Mon 1/23/2017 9:48 AM
46 KB

Here is what the actual email looks like. Note that I have put some spaces in
the URL's and wrote the .com as "dot com" which prevents these being actual
links:

Hotmail upgrading e-mail account - siegh...@live.ca

We have recently upgraded all our customer e-mail addresses to the new
Outlook.com. Due to this your Hotmail e-mail account needs to be re-activated.
You can do this by just simply logging in on the link below:
Here it first shows a link for "Boxing Week Blowout"
The underlying link is: https colon// save.thebrick dot com
/pub/cc?_ri_=X0Gzc2X%3DYQpglLjHJlYQGh1kYzcoUBhSoGbk8Lij8bR5SqFzde9GO1pTDBizcef6BJ9Ozb2ymPhVXtpKX
 % 3DSUADDRY&_ei_ = EgutRvnodQCJBAqljZfbvoo.

Then it has the link which looks reasonably authentic:
https colon// logins.live dot com
/activate-user-outlook/User-id-confirmation-2278FGU.wsignin1.login
The actual link the above will go to is this:
http colon// xinlexiangmi dot com slash aaq2/index . html

If your e-mail account is not activated within 2 working days it may expire.
This is a compulsory process that affects all our customers.

Thank you for your support,
The Microsoft Security team 2017

At the end are 3 more links to "save on" bluetooth speakers, bluetooth
headphones and 60% off reclining sofas which all go to some weird URL as well.
