Hello list, So there are a few YouTube channels I subscribe to. My preferred method of consuming media is via podcast. I use downcast for this purpose. Thus, I wanted to see if I could somehow get Downcast to pull YouTube channels like any other podcasting RSS feed.
Poking around, there seems to be a way to do this with some tweaks as YouTube would prefer you to visit YouTube and stay there. They don’t exactly offer RSS feeds per say. As instructed on a couple of sites, I use the URL: <https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=> https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id= Then I go to a particular YouTube channel and in the source code search for the text “channel_id=” (without the quotes). >From there, I copy the text after the equal sign to the URL creating an RSS feed. Two examples are: <https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCsEukrAd64fqA7FjwkmZ_D w> https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCsEukrAd64fqA7FjwkmZ_Dw and <https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCLXo7UDZvByw2ixzpQCufn A> https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCLXo7UDZvByw2ixzpQCufnA The first URL is to the GQ YouTube channel and the second is to Vox. I add these to Downcast and while they appear in my list of podcast feeds as they should, they are empty. Even if I refresh them and if something is recently posted, Downcast will note that there was a new posting, but still empty. If I click on the URLs outside of Downcast. Say in Safari or IE/Firefox, the feeds will take me to their respective YouTube channels with the list of video postings and if I add them to my dedicated RSS reader (in my case, The Old Reader), they’ll work as they should with the list of posted videos. So I guess my question is, if anyone here’s been able to get modified YouTube channel RSS feeds to work within a podcasting app. Preferably Downcast and if so, what did they do? Be it with this method outlined above or an alternative one? I’m wondering if I’m maybe missing a step somewhere. I wrote the Downcast developer earlier, but thought I’d reach out to the community as well. Thanks, Cristobal Thanks, -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
