These do sound nice, but I think the main difference from the Airpods is that
they are slightly larger hence the increased battery life and of course there
is the connecting wire/cable which allows for the in-line remote. Also they are
noise isolating as opposed to the Airpods which just like their wired
counterpart, the Earpods, sit just in the outside of your ear and let noise
from the outside through.
Also, it says they use "Class 1 Bluetooth Technology". I looked that up because
usually you read about Bluetooth versions like 4.0, 4.2 or the newest Bluetooth
5.0.
Apparently Class 1, 2 or 3 refers to the power class not the device class which
would be your Bluetooth 4.0, 4.2 etc.
Class 1 is actually the best with a maximum power of 100MW (milliwatt) or 20DBM
() and it is the one that in good environments has a range of up to 100 meters.
Class 2 is what we are mostly used to in speakers, headsets, keyboards etc, it
has a maximum power of 2.5MW (40 times weaker than class 1) and a range of 10
meters. Class 3 has only 1MW with a range of 1 meter.
However, the catch here is that even if you have a Class 1 headset like the
BeatsX, you only get the 100 meter range if the device on the other end (your
iPhone in this case) also is capable of Class 1 power. The article I read
explained it this way:

Many people make the mistake of believing that they can extend the range of
their class 2 device to 100m by purchasing a class 1 device for the other end.
This is simply not true. Consider two people standing 100m apart, if person A
yells loud enough for their voice to travel over 100m, person B will be able to
hear what person A is saying, but if when person B replies they only yell loud
enough for their voice to travel over 10m, person A will obviously not hear the
response.

Finding out which iPhones fall under which power class is not as easy, but from
what I could find online it would appear that starting with the iPhone 6
iPhones do support Class 1 so theoretically the iPhone 6/6 Plus, 6S/6S Plus and
7/7Plus should give you that 100 meter (just over 300 feet) line of sight range
with one of these BeatX headsets or any other headset that supports Class 1
power.

I am surprised that this is not mentioned as a feature in the description, but
maybe Apple doesn't do so because many people may have other mobile phones
which don't support Class 1 or maybe because various environmental factors make
a difference here.

I am definitely intriqued by these earbuds, too bad they don't offer also the
option to plug them into your iPhone with a Lightning cable so you could use
them on an airplane in wired mode. It appears they charge via Lightning cable
so this may or may not be possible.
If you don't care whether your headset is one with earbuds or larger earcups
there is of course also the Beats Solo which also has the W1 chip and which
gives you up to 40 hours of music playback.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Here's the link to the BeatsX earphones in the US Apple Store:

That link covers three lines so if your email is set to only display as plain

I've pasted the text from that page after my signature.

These earphones were released in the last day or two and are available online
from Apple. They differ from the air pods in that they have a separate remote
button for controlling functions and the two earphones are connected by a wire.
They are also $10 cheaper than the air pods. You can read all about them in the
Apple Store app.
