Yes, you can use the volume buttons on the phone or you can tap the Airpod and
when SIRI comes up you can ask SIRI to lower the volume (or increase it) or you
can say something like "Set the volume to 55%".
Mark, in case you still read this thread, I did actually try out the Airpods at
an Apple Store and I took some time to do so.
I am totally with you with respect to how they feel and sound, I think they are
a bit overpriced, but I'd fork out the $220 Canadian instantly if they had a
volume control, offered Play/Pause functionality as well as a way to invoke
SIRI. Yes, I know you can just get SIRI going and tell SIRI to Play or Pause or
to change the volume, but there are situations where I may not want to talk
into thin air in front of me to do this and for me these are basic functions I
am looking for and it just doesn't make sense to me to push these Airpods as if
they were the reinvention of the wheel and then I have to pull out my phone if
I want to do something as simple as change the volume or pause my book or music
without being forced to remove the Airpod from my ear. I think they are totally
cool, but for me they just are not ready for prime time. I know you live in LA
where it's mostly warm, but up here where I am wearing a fair bit of clothing
for 6 months out of the year and my phone is usually in my hip holster under a
layer or two being able to do such basic things on the headset is nice.

Regards,
Sieghard

Can you control the volume with the volume buttons on the side of the phone?
