As new users I think it is definitely best to start out with individual Apple Id’s, then you can decide later on if you want to use the same Apple Id for some things or not. Also, if you are subscribing to Apple Music or may do so in the future you could sign up for a family plan for $14.99 a months (only $5 more than an individual plan) and if you each have your Apple Id’s you get individual music recommendations etc. If you want you could use the same Apple Id for the app store and iTunes and this way your wife would have access to everything you ever bought in terms of apps or music, but if you add her as a family member she would also have access to most apps as most of them allow for family sharing so if the main family member/organiser buys the app everybody else who is in the family group has access to the app as well.
