Casey, It's an iOS app and all iOS apps need to be downloaded from the App Store. Go to the App Store on your phone, search for "Whats App", install it and when you open it everything is very straight forward. You select your country, enter phone number and confirm with a code that is sent to your phone I think. That's basically it except for giving some permissions like to use the camer, microphone and get access to your contacts and allow push notifications.
