I use an app called Stepz. Note the last letter is a z.
It's nice because the app doesn't need to be open to track steps, and
the current total is shown as a badge along with the home screen
icon. The app appaerantly cannot continually update the step count in
real time due to the way it works. So, to get an instant update just
open the Stepz app and then close it and the icon badge is updated.

Hi,
I am interested in using my iphone to track the number of steps I take
during a day. I downloaded a couple of apps:
pacer, runkeeper, and movesum, but none of them seem to actually do
what I am interested in, and they seem to drain my battery really
quickly.
Yesterday I unplugged my iphone at about 6:30am and by noon it was at
50% battery.
For health reasons, i want to get an idea of how many steps I am
taking. I know the health app is also supposed to do something like
this but I can't figure out how to get it to work.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Don
