Sorry for the typo in the subject line of the original message. I just thought I mention that if you Google “Sonos 1” or “Sonos 1 Speaker” you find many more articles from reputable sources such as 9to5Mac, CNET etc., I referenced the article from The Verge, but you can go to just about any of the tech sites of your choice and find an article about the Sonos 1. After all Sonos were first at this whole multi-room wireless audio stuff and in my view they are still the King of the best quality multi-room audio offering the most music services and of course the app is fully accessible. Sonos has shown a solid commitment to accessibility, they have continued to come out with new products and if as I read somewhere but have to verify the new Sonos 1 includes support for Airplay 2 then that is a big step forward. This means that once they release their flagship Play 5 with voice control I would be surprised if they excluded Airplay from it and I’m glad I haven’t bought any new Play 1, Play 3 or Play 5 speakers in a few years. I do have one set of Play 1 as rear speakers for my Sonos living room setup, but when Alexa is officially coming to Canada I think I’ll definitely buy a set of Sonos 1 for the kitchen. I spoke to a Sonos agent and he said that it is their goal to support all voice assistants and while Google Assistant is the obvious next choice and it’s already planned for early 2018, he said Cortana is also on the roadmap and they would of course love to have support for SIRI although that I could see might be a long time in the future since Apple probably won’t give them access given they want to sell HomePods first. In any case, those who have heard me talk about Sonos know I’m quite a big fan, I have had most of my Sonos stuff since 2009/2010 and was probably a pain in the neck to Sonos in those years because I constantly bugged them about improving accessibility along with some others, primarily Neil Barnfather from the UK.
Regards, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Thursday, October 5, 2017 8:22 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Why buy an Alexa or a Google Home when the new Sonos 1 spaker can do it all for $199 US or $249 Canadian Hi, Sonos yesterday announced their newest addition to the impressive speaker selection for multi-room audio. The Sonos 1 is basically a Play 1 but with support for Amazon Alexa built in and I also heard that it will finally support Airplay 2 out of the box. Support for Google Assistant is planned for early2018 so here you now have one great sounding speaker which supports the two most popular voice assistants and for just $20 more than what an Amazon Echo costs. Here is an article from The Verge<https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/10/4/16418136/new-sonos-speaker-announced-price-release-date-specs> about the speaker, it is available for preorder and will ship October 24. Of course it also comes with the Sonos complete satisfaction guaranty, you can try it for 45 days (more than 6 weeks) and send it back for a full refund if you don’t like it. You can of course also go directly to the Sonos website<http://www.sonos.com/us/streaming-music?_ga=2.81750167.148071673.1497810428-16517373.1497810428#close> to read all about all their products and if you click the Sonos 1 link<http://www.sonos.com/en-ca/shop/one.html?utm_campaign=GGL_CA_EN_SONOS_B_Sonos+One_BMM_360i&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_content=GGL_CA_EN_SONOS_B_Sonos+One_BMM_360i&utm_term=%2Bsonos+%2B1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsNfOBRCWARIsAGITapYeY-9AXIoQq-ty8QJQXaby-AtjOfTlzy1Oj23SHsCiJjfcPn9CaSEaAsIlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds> it will go directly to the details. Of course Amazon has done pretty poorly when it comes to making Alexa available in other countries. I believe Alexa was first introduced in 2013 or 2014 so now 3 or 4 years later it’s officially available only in the United States, the UK and Germany. I understand they are working on bringing it to Canada and it’s sure time, the Google Home is already officially available here and Apple said while the HomePod will not be available in Canada at launch later this year, it should be here by early to mid next year. For all I know they may offer the HomePod here before Amazon brings Alexa to Canada. Maybe if Amazon really does choose a Canadian city like Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto for their new second headquarters we’ll get a bit more attention from them.
