The apps themselves are of course free, whether one service is better than another may depend on your city. In some places the same drivers may drive for Lift and Uber. Here in Canada Uber is only available in a few of the larger cities and I have used it in Calgary and the drivers were always very good, but at one point we went from our hotel to a mall using Uber and then going back we used a regular taxi, both times it was in the late afternoon/early evening when things were quite busy and the distance was not very far, maybe 2 or 3 Km. In that example Ueber was more expensive because of their surcharge during times when there is high demand and of course there is all the bad press Uber has been getting because of how they are treating their employees, their drivers and some of the practices they have employeed which are unethical to say the least. They are suffering because of this right now with London having revoked their license and I think there is a chance they are getting kicked out of Quebec. Vancouver on the other hand is apparently going to start letting Uber come in this fall, at least that was the plan.
