I use Whats App all the time (more than Skype now) to chat with friends and
relatives in Germany. The app is not as popular here in North America, but is
very popular in Germany and I assume other european countries as well as in
South America and some asian countries.
Yes, you can send text messages, voice messages and video messages and you can
easily make audio or video calls with individuals and groups although I have
currently no use for group calls.
What I like is that it integrates nicely with your addressbook/contacts, if you
have somebody's mobile phone number and they use Whats App you can
automatically call them without requesting a Skype name etc.
I also find the app much user friendlier especially since Skype's latest major
update to version 8.
The one advantage Skype still has is that I can call regular phone numbers,
their subscriptions are very inexpensive and I get 60 minutes a months of
calling via my Office 365 subscription.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: how to use WhatsApp for a particular purpose

hello,
Somewhat impetuously, I have offered to teach English to various people around
the world using WhatsApp. I have used this app for a while now, but, Millie to
receive messages and reply to them. I have a list of, say, eight people, with
their phone numbers, who wish to avail of my services. Wilde we would be a
group, as such, I am thinking that the calls would be on an individual basis.
am I right in assuming one can use WhatsApp in the same way that one can use
Skype? so, we can chat away as with a normal phone call? would there be any
point in me setting up a group? it might be easier to keep tabs of the various
calls and people, but not sure about that… in fact, I almost wish I hadn’t
volunteered, I don’t really know how to go about this. can anyone give me some
tips as to how to organise this via the app?

thanks in advance, fingers crossed, Sandy
