Hi Sieghard,
So now I take it you don’t have to press the FN key to do some Jaws commands?
Also does this keyboard have an application key?

Perfect, Les, the software is now called “Logitech Options” and while not all
of it is fully accessible, I was able to easily find the checkbox which I had
to uncheck to make the function keys work as regular function keys. The nice
thing is that now I use FN+F2 to switch to my iPhone, but once there the
function keys still have various functions assigned without having to press the
FN key, e.g. F8 is Play/Pause, F7 and F9 is Previous and Next Track, F11 and
F12 is volume up/down etc. Even switching back to the PC requires only a press
of F1 not FN+F1, it seems only when the PC is connected do the function keys
work as regular function keys.
I am now very happy with this keyboard, it has a beautiful feel and I love the
weight. For those who don’t have it, this keyboard is a full-size keyboard with
Numpad on the right and in back it has a groove all across so you can stick in
your iPhone or even a full-size iPad Pro 12.9 inch and it stands up in this
slot. This is also why the keyboard is so heavy, if you put in an iPad it needs
the weight so it’s stabil (it weighs almost 2 pounds) and when I first picked
it up my first thought was Wow, this is heavy and feels very solid given its
size.
I haven’t used the USB dongle yet since my laptop has bluetooth, but I like the
fact that the dongle is inside the battery compartment, this way it’s always
handy and you can’t really lose it.Only thing is that it would have been nice
if they had put a gaps between the escape key and F1, between F4 and F5 and F8
and F9 as is the case on regular keyboards. On this keyboard you have Escape at
the very top left, then F1 through F12 and two more keys (I think they are
Insert and Print Screen) and all 15 keys are in one continuous row, but to the
right where they end you are just above the backspace key so there is empty
space all above the Numpad so they could have easily put in the gaps.
Anyhow, it is nonetheless what I have come to expect from Logitech keyboards, a
quality keyboard with a nice, soft and very quiet typing experience.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

There is a program you need to download from the Logitech web site. It is
called Setpoint. Once you install it, you’ll run the program and you’ll have
an option to change the function keys to function as regular function keys. By
default, the function keys by themselves control various laptop functions such
as volume, brightness, etc. But this utility should do what you want.

Subject: Logitech K780 keyboard and function keys

Hi,

I know a few people on the list recently bought the Logitech K780 keyboard. I
also bought one and was wondering if there is anything one can do if the
keyboard is connected to a laptop via bluetooth so that the function keys
without having to press the FN key at the bottom left.
Currently if, for example, I want to bring up the links list on a webpage or
simply get Jaws to speak the time or use any other Jaws Key+Function key
combination I also have to press the FN key and since it’s way over on the
other side from where the Jaws Key is it is pretty much impossible to do for me
since I usually press the Jaws Key with my right hand and whichever function
key with my left.
I hope there is a solution for this where the function keys work normally and
maybe one needs to press the FN key to get whatever other functions are
assigned to them such as switching devices with F1, F2 and F3, e.g. I would
have to press FN+F1, FN+F2 and FN+F3, otherwise this is a dealbreaker for me
and it will have to go back to Best Buy. I bought this keyboard so I can use it
as my main external keyboard for my laptop, but also as a keyboard for my
iPhone if I am travelling, but it will be primarily a PC keyboard for me which
means I need the function keys.

Thanks,
Sieghard
