If you google MP3 to M4R conversion you will find all sorts of free online 
utilities which will convert it for you.

hi thanks for the steps, but the problem is I have a couple of ringtones in mp3 
but how do I change them to the right format? I was able to fix this in a 
earlier version of itunes but not this one though
