How much do you want to spend? If price is no object, then get a pair of Beats Solo3 headphones for $300. I got a pair of these and love them. They pair automatically with your iPhone when the headphones are turned on. When they pair and unpair, a cool sound is played in the headphones. The headphones have a battery life of 40 hours and a Bluetooth range of 150 feet, thanks to a special microprocessor Apple developed for Beats headphones. The only issue is mid-range sounds are de-emphasized. But this is true for all Beats headphones. However they generally sound great and offer an immersive experience. They are not specifically noise cancelling but I wear them on the Chicago subway system and can hear my music over the noise of passing trains and the noise inside the car as it moves through the concrete tunnel. They allow me to enjoy my own music while street performers have played electric guitars or pounded on drum sets on the subway platform. I normally don’t spend this much on headphones. I attended the opening of a new AT&T experience location, which AT&T now calls its stores, and won a $500 AT&T Gift card, which could only be spent on hardware. At AT&T, experiencing an unboxing with an employee is almost as good as it is at Apple. Like at Apple stores, the new AT&T locations have high topped tables where people can stand or hang out on stools with plastic backs. My AT&T sales representative, Adam, removed each of the items in the box and placed it in my hand to feel. He also showed me the buttons on the side of the headphones to control the playing of music and the volume. Adam also configured my iPhone to pair with the headphones. Purchases are made through iPads employees carry around with them and not at a cash register by the door.
After an unboxing, visitors can move to couches scattered around to experience their hardware. For me, I configured the equalizer in Spotify to maximize the rich audio from the headphones. Part of the AT&T retail experience now includes free Wi-Fi, which can be used to listen to headphones or evaluate open air speakers also sold at AT&T. If you want good quality, but inexpensive headphones, I strongly suggest heading over to Ben’s Bargains and checking out the headphone section. I have bought headphones there at a 90 percent discount to the retail price. These are great deals throughout the year.
