These are all good points ... I'll just add that a weak battery can be fixed 
much more cheaply with something like a Mophie battery/case than paying for a 
new phone.

I can't remember for certain when NFC was added to iPhones, seems like it was 
the 6S models, so I would upgrade if I had a phone without nfc just to have 
ApplePay, which is a great convenience to the VI user when available.

i recently upgraded from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 8. I had had the 6 for 3 
years. It still worked fine, but it seemed that I was getting less battery 
life, probably due to time and repeated charging. I also noticed that after 
updating to IOS 11, the phone ran noticably slower. I chose the 8 because I 
liked the form factor, and I wanted the home button. The 8 runs much faster. 
I didn't want the X because i didn't want a larger phone, and I wanted the 
home button.
