Thanks Mark, I'm going to brave the traffic and set out on a journey to
Starbucks. Take care.

Hello Kay,

Yes, you can use your credit card to reload your Starbucks card.

You can do this while you're in the store or, ahead of time.

Good Luck and Enjoy.

Okay, makes sense. If I don't want to use apple pay, could I load my
virtual Starbucks card that is on my phone with a credit card ahead of time?
I will stop asking more questions now, because we may be getting off topic
and I can, if needed call their customer service and find out more. Thanks
for your help.

Kay,

When you purchase items from the Starbucks store, at the register, if you
want to accrue Starbucks reward points, you must show/use your Starbucks
rewards card. This card can be a physical instrument or, if you prefer, you
may use your Starbucks app's virtual card. Essentially, a virtual card is
simply a photo of a barcode that is displayed on your iPhone screen at the
time of purchase.

A possible scenario is as follows:

1.
You go into a Starbucks store and order a cup of coffee.

2.
The Starbucks employee rings up your order on the register.

3.
Then, he/she will ask if you have a Starbucks rewards card. At this point,
you can either hand them a physical card or, if you have the Starbucks app,
you can open the virtual card, from within the app, at which time the
employee will hover a scanner a few inches away from your phone's display,
in order to input your unique barcode.

4.
You pay for your item and then your done.

Remember, this is just one of many, many scenarios in which you may use your
Starbucks app virtual rewards card.

In my case, I choose to load money on my virtual Starbucks card via Apple
pay.

So, a typical scenario for me is:

1.
Before I enter a Starbucks store, I open up my Starbucks app and have my
virtual Starbucks card's barcode on the display.

2.
I go into a Starbucks store and order a cup of coffee.

3.
After the employee rings up the sale, I pick up the register's scanner and
scan the barcode that is currently being displayed on my phone. I have
enough vision to be able to locate the physical hand-scanner that is
intended to be used by customers. This process takes less than 5 seconds.
Upon completion of the scan, the amount of the coffee is immediately
deducted from my balance.

That's really all there is to it.

Hi Mark,
I discovered in order to put the star codes from packages in to your account
you have to do this on line. I still don't understand Your answer to
question 2. Which was,

Answer 2:
As with many third-party apps, one can create and save an Apple Passbook
pass. This is essentially a copy of the bar code needed to access your
account during purchases. In the case of the Starbucks app, if you want
your account updated, immediately, it's best to access the bar code screen
from within the app, itself, instead of using the Apple Wallet.

How is this barcode screen used? This is what I don't understand. The rest
about Apple wallet I understand fine.

I have never purchased a package of Starbucks coffee so cannot answer this

Question 2:
What do you mean by,
While you can create and save a ApplePay Pass for easy access when paying,
the features work best when you use the bar code payment display from within
the app, itself. This is completely VoiceOver accessible.
I do not understand.

You can turn on the Message feature. Doing so will, upon opening the
Starbucks app, present you with an -Inbox to which Starbucks sends
information and promotions, from time-to-time.

Thanks much for any help.

Subject: A Quick Primmer to the iOS Starbucks App

Hello All,

Please keep the following in mind when using the iOS Starbucks app with
VoiceOver:

1.
You can use ApplePay to Reload your Starbucks Account.

2.
While you can create and save a ApplePay Pass for easy access when paying,
the features work best when you use the bar code payment display from within
the app, itself. This is completely VoiceOver accessible.

3.
The way to earn rewards is to accrue Stars.

4.
You earn two Stars for every, one, dollar you spend. However, this is the
most basic way and is not the best method of accruing Stars.

5.
It takes 125 Stars in order to receive a free item.

6.
Upon launching the app, you will discover a rewards area. This area will
always display your currently running rewards offer. This is the most
important area of the app for this is the area where you can find out what
you need to do to earn more stars with less money. For example, last week,
I received an offer that if I purchased only one item, I would receive 125
bonus Stars in addition to my normal Stars. So, I bought a drink for $3 and
instead of earning only 6 Stars, I received 131 Stars.

7.
You only get one offer per week. So, once you complete your offer, you must
wait until you receive your next offer.

8.
Some offers involve multiple purchases. For example, I received one offer
that gave me 50 Stars for every item I purchased up to 6 items. Please keep
in mind that an item means 1 registry transaction. So, Were I to purchase
two cups of coffee on the same receipt, it would count as one item. So, if
I want to purchase two items, one for me and one for a friend, and assuming
I want Star credit for each item, I would have to have the barista ring up
each drink, separately.

9.
You must manually activate an offer before you purchase, in order to earn
its associated Stars. This is the only area of the app that is not
VoiceOver accessible. No problem, however, for, at the time of purchase,
simply disable VoiceOver and have the barista touch the "Start Offer Now,"
button. The barista only need do this once, per offer. Once the offer is
started, it will remain in effect, until it ends and VoiceOver will read the
status of the offer and the number of days left in the offer and whether or
not you have completed the offer.

10.
The next area of the screen is a preview of your Inbox. Sometimes, you will
receive very important notices and even more offers. For example,
yesterday, I received an email informing me that this is a double Star
weekend. So, yesterday, I purchased an item for $4 but received 16 Stars.
Last week, I received a message in my Inbox that told me that should I
reload my account with at least $10, I would receive 100 bonus Stars. It's
pretty amazing. You know, I have some sighted friends who have had the
Starbucks app for years and yet have never gotten any free items because
they fail to activate their reward offers or read the messages in their
app-inbox. (smile)

11.
Keep in mind that when you start out, you are at Green level. You must earn
300 Stars in order to be promoted to Gold level. Once you are at gold
level, then you begin receiving free items for every 125 Stars earned. In
my case, I went from 0 Stars to 450 Stars in less than one week with only
$12 in purchases because I took advantage of reward offers. Mind you, I
would have spent the $12, anyway so why not take advantage of the free
rewards?

12.
Once you acquire Gold Status, it will remain active for 1 year. The app
will tell you how many stars you need in order to either achieve or extend
your Gold Status. In my case, even though I have spent only $24, my gold
Status has been extended to the middle of 2020. (smile)

13.
When you earn bonus Stars, it can take up to 24 hours before they appear in
your app.

14.
Stars expire after 6 months so use your rewards. The app will inform you
when Stars are due to expire, etc.

Okay, I think I've covered all of the basics. However, if I forgot
something or you need assistance using or understanding the app, you can
call Starbucks customer service at:
800-782-7282.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark
