Dear Dani,

the apps are generally called navigation apps. GPS is only one means
the iPhone uses to determine location. iPhones also use GLONASS, the
Russian satellite navigation system and WIFI signals. Newer iPhones
also support the new European satellite navigation system.

You do not say where in the world you live. Most apps work only in
certain countries. also, you do not say if you live in or near one of
the top metropolitan areas in your country or in a rural area, which
likely has limited cell service.
