Hello Harry, There was an update, today for Mac OS. And, it was listed under OS Updates, but it was iTunes, only.
Again, I could be mistaken so I'll check again, later tonight. After updating your Mac, did it restart and did the process take longer than 10 minutes? If so, then it was an OS update, If not, then it was simply updating iTunes.
