Hi Sieghard. I just read about an Alexa skill that will allow you to use your Amazon echo device with one of the WD MyCloud devices. I have a WD MyCloud nas so I'm anxious too give this a try and see how it works out. You might want to check it out if you have one of the WD devices.

If you use a cloud service like Dropbox or OneDrive you can certainly store your music there, but this will not be available to the Music app on your iPhone. You would have to use one of many free or paid apps most of which can access music stored in all the major cloud services. Also, the Amazon Echo can only play music from services such as Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer etc., I don't think it can access your own music stored in the cloud or locally on a computer or network attached drive. Sonos, however, can do this. Everybody from Apple to Amazon and Google want to promote the use of subscription based music services and that is in my opinion certaily the way of the future. I am 51 and of course used to own a turn table and later CD player back in the 80's and of course frequent trips to the record store back then were part of my lifestyle. Unlike others who bought thousands of albums I only owned about 280 or 300, my LP collection which wasn't that large I sold a long time ago and my 280 or so CD's have all been ripped in FLAC lossless format onto a network attached storage drive and the actual CD's have been packed up in a box for years since I haven't owned a CD player for at least 6 or 7 years or so, basically ever since I bought Sonos equipment. Q: anybody tried the following? been for a look, seems plausable, even worth a try. In essence, free cloud space to store music in current form, then app to access it for use on idevice, without shovelling it all onto your device. Can store more than even the higher spec phones will hold, but certainly an option to evade going through iTunes itself. All else we'd need to know is whether the content would show up as part of your music library, and become accessible to any Echo's or related.
