Wayne, I'm also trying to decide the best time to upgrade my iPhone. I really want a model with a home button because I'm not a fan of the iPhone X interface changes and am not ready to relearn a bunch of gestures to make up for the missing home button. Be aware that there is a risk in waiting until the new models are released because you can't get all the capacity that was available when the model you're getting was first released. For example, if you go to the Apple Store and shop for an iPhone 7 today, the largest capacity you can get is 128GB even though you could get a 256GB model when it was released. Just something to keep in mind.
