Hi I might try and answer your question. You have set the work place as a favourite, that part seems to be fine. Did you set up notifications for your newly added favourite place as well? If you do that, you should receive updates for your home and workplace as well. I have a few places set up like that, where my son travels to on a regular basis, and I receive the forecasts and notifications for those places. Hope this might solve your problem.
