I’ll reply to several of you in one message. Thanks for the suggestion on donation, hadn’t thought of that.
The 5S is 16 gb, didn’t realize it at the time I originally bought it. The phone still works for calls and text as well as email and lots of other apps, but was getting full and was beginning to lose performance on the battery, among other things. The mute switch on the side had broken off, so I couldn’t unmute itany more. The Lifeproof case that I bought with it had also broken to just what surrounded the phone, with a couple pieces missing, and the screen protector came unglued, though I still have it. I don’t know about how to go about working with Ebay or Craig’s List to make a sale either as a whole phone or to use for parts. Never done it due in part due to fear of the accessibility. Alnmost got an Ebay account at an NFB national convention one year when they ahd a seminar, but chickened out because I couldn’t decide on a password and never followed through. As for the sound on the 8 Plus, it is noticeably better on the new phone, though so far I have only tried it with the phone’s speaker, not with the wired ear buds that come with it or Bluetooth headphones yet. I was getting some stereo effects from the speaker I didn’t get with the old phone. The touch is a little more sensitive, and I had to turn off raise to wake on the new phone, don’t know if that’s a newer phone feature or a new operating system thing; the new phone took me into iOS 11 which I had upgraded to on the 5S due to capacity problems. Also, I don’t know how to prepare the old phone for resale or donation. I know I have to clear my old data from it but don’t know how to do that. I hope that takes care of everybody who responded. Some shelters accept old phones to give to those housed in the shelter for use in case of emergencies. My local Domestic Violence shelter accepts old phones that is how I know. The phones need to be functional of course. Donna I’ve got a 5S that I’m using for my second business line. I grabbed it off of eBay for something like $130 at the time. I did change the battery a few months ago since it was dropping from 90% to 20% almost in the blink of an eye (exaggerating just a little), but the camera doesn’t work for scanning, the volume up button is now touchy and touch ID doesn’t want to work. But it’s still chugging along for incoming and outgoing calls and everything else. I pay between $10 and $19 a month with my MVNO for this line. I only have a couple of extra non-native apps on it like Pandora, MLB @Bat, the Ultra Trainer app for workout timers, etc. Even if I wanted to consider seling it, it would probably not be worth it. Maybe $50 cash on Craigslist, but who wants to go through that hassle? I’ll use this bad boy until it finally gives up the ghost or if I find its performance with iOS 12 is too slow, then maybe just keep it for streaming music on my home wifi and workout/food timers. Maybe he can upgrade to a 4S in a year or two *smile*. I think if he upgraded to an iPhone 8 or iPhone X it would be too much of a shock for him. I have my new 8 Plus and am going through some shakedown with it. I still have to deal with some settings issues and need to learn the new features I have. It appears all the data transferred successfully. Now what I need is a way to dispose of my old 5S, which is possibly salvageable for someone needing an old phone, though it has some broken parts. I have no idea how best to go about taking care of this, and would like to bring back some cash I can use for other expenses, if possible. Please advise me on a good course of action.
