If you get it directly from apple, it will work with any carrier. The blurb I read when setting up my iPhone upgrade program said, you will get a sim free phone, with your carriers Simmcard. So that leads me to believe that all phones are being made the same. I also read that t mobile and sprint are taking advantage of there newly built service over the past year.
