the first national government alert test will be conducted this Thursday
afternoon at 2:18 Eastern time. this means that all capable cell phones
will receive this test if they are turned on and connected to a cell
tower. You can't opt out of these alerts and they go off even if your
phone is on silent from what I read. this would be crazy if you're in a
crowded public place and everyone's cell phone goes off at the same
time. I've been in Walmart when Amber alerts would go off and it can get
loud. They say this is going to be a different sound, so I'm curious to
see what it's going to sound like. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be
attention getting.
