I use both Overcast and Downcast, but personally I have a slight preference for Downcast. I love the Overcast effects which have been discussed earlier in this thread, but with Downcast I really like being able to see the length of each episode before I start to play it. I am subscribed to far too many podcasts, some in each app, and I would love to know how to check the episode length in Overcast in order to make maximum use of time. I freely admit that my preference for Downcast may have a lot to do with familiarity. I like to be able to stream some podcast feeds and download others, and at the moment I can't remember whether this is possible in Overcast. Downcast has a lot of individual feed customisations, such as the number of episodes to keep, when to refresh the feed, etc. I think they're both great apps.
