Did Zoom get turned on? If Zoom is on, it takes a three finger triple tap to mute and unmute speech. And it takes a three finger quadruple tap to toggle the screen curtain. The standard VoiceOver gestures for muting speech and toggling screen curtain are used by Zoom, hence the extra tap to get passed Zoom.
