Exactly, the Airpods came out what a year and a half ago in September of 2017 
or was it even 2016? I guess we'll see if the expected Airpods update comes out 
this year whether this will be addressed, but this along with the lack of 
volume control on the Airpods makes me hold off. They are super-expensive and 
while they are small, have good battery life given their size and sound great 
they are lacking important features and no excuse about "work in progress" cuts 
it for me.

Please no way I would give apple a pass with this. Your are completely right 
about the way the airpods tend to have to be made to switch between the watch 
and the phone.
