If you just want to scan stuff, don’t care about saving things permanently, then you can just use Voice Dream scanner. You can’t do PDF images, however, unless you have a Voice Dream reader, because you have to import the image into the reader in order to get the scanned text via the scanner which is accessible from the reader.
