Technical or conectivity aspects aside, as an end user, I think other than the standard keypad and volume controls that would probably be the base of any app remote solution, would be the ability to access other features that appear on the television screen like program information, ratings, etc. Just as importantly though would also be the ability to control what information is provided. More isn't always better. Flicking back and forth between channels, I don't necessarily need to know what's on channel 7 for the umpteenth time if I'm going between two programs and am commercial hopping. DVR interaction, television guides and other goodies which are now pretty much a no go would also be nice.

We will be using your home's local wifi / router set up and avoiding the IR dongle for now. So satellite receivers yes, smart tvs yes, dvd players and home theatres no for version 1.0. Also, will this utilize a IR dongle which needs to be plugged in to the iPhone or will it work via a hub that is connected to the home network and which will generate and send out the IR codes? This remote will be a mobile application for the iPhone and iPad platforms. We have just secured a partnership with TiVo and are now moving ahead with the design. I'm interested in knowing what features would be the most useful for the members of this group. Please tell me what would make the TV controller experience better for you. I'll keep everyone updated on our progress. Our website will go live in about a month with me more details. Look forward to hearing from you.
