One more question. I let my phone run down until it froze, charged it fully, then tried to do a hard reset with holding down the screen lock button and the volume down button. I held them for about 10 seconds, but still had to hold down the power button for 3 seconds before the phone came back on. Am I doing the re-set correctly? Thanks.

A little warm probably wont hurt much, but I would let it rest if it gets to hot. One thing you can do is close apps in the app switcher and clear your memory. To clear the active memory on the iPhone 7, hold down the power button as if you were going to turn the phone off. When the power off comes up, let go of the power button and press and hold the home button until voice over speaks again. This will clear your active memory and take some pressure off of your degraded battery. So lets see where your battery is. Go to settings and then battery.
