This happened to me once as well. I live in Austin, Texas, and one time I left my iPhone in the car while we went kayaking, and when I got back, I had the same message. Just like you, I never leave my iPhone in a car on a hot sunny day anymore. I know the battery doesn't like heat, so I figure it's best not to let it get that hot.

Hi All,
This is just a heads-up for those that live in warmer climates.  Today my wife and I went into a restaurant to have lunch, it was a little after 11:00 am and was a little over 90º outside.  I left my iPhone in the car since we wouldn't be very long.  Well, were in the restaurant about 1 hour and when we got back into the car I went to check my phone to see if I had any missed calls.  This message I got surprised me.  Voiceover stated;  Your iPhone is too hot and won't work until it cools off, or something like that.  So, I took the phone out of its Otterbox holster and held it in front of the AC vent for several minutes and it finally cooled off enough to work.  Whoa boy, it doesn't seem to have suffered any damage, what a relief!  I've been using cell phones for damn near 30 years and I've never had a phone not work because it had gotten too warm!  Anyways, I would say it had probably gotten no more than 110º in the car being we had parked in the shade and the phone was not in any direct sunlight.  Well, I'll never leave my phone in the car again! LOL Just wanted to give y'all the heads-up to say just take your phone with you so this does not happen to you.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!
If at first you DO succeed, try not to look astonished!
