Hi Shane As far as I know, yes you do need to click on the tab to bring up the close tab button. There may be another way but I have not come across it.
As for containers, these are major sections of the current UI. For example go to the Mail app and put the rotor option on containers. Now use the up and down flick to see how your focus is moved through the app. It is basically just another way of moving through an interface.
