Audio Ducking lowers the volume of a program when VoiceOver is speaking. If you are listening to music, and touch the screen, the music will dim a little to try to make it easier to hear what VoiceOver is saying. So, in the case of trying to hear the numbers on a keypad when accessing a phone system like what many banks use, you have a better chance of hearing the numbers you are touching over the recorded message from the bank.
