Hey there. I'm planning on going to my Dad and Stepmother's for vacation. You may wonder what's so exciting about this? Well, other than getting to see my Dad and Stepmother, I wanted to take my Apple TV with me. Problem is the TV I'd plan on hooking it to doesn't have an HDMI connection. It would either have composite video, which is three RCA plugs, one for the video and the other two for left and right audio channels. If it didn't have composite video I'd have to use a coax connector, which is the screw on connector that you hook the TV to Cable. I figured I'd be out of luck finding the devices I'd need to connect the Apple TV to such a TV, but I'm happy to say I found what I need. Tiger Direct sells an HDMI to Composite Video box for $60. I also got the warranty for it which added $7 to the cost. If I need a coax connector I can either take a VCR with me, or better yet, Radio Shack sells such a device for $28. For Tiger Direct, go to
http://tigerdirect.com. There's a toll free number that you can call to order what you need, which is what I did. As for Radio Shack, most folks in the U.S. will have a local store in their area. I'm pleased to find the devices I need. I'm particularly happy about the HDMI to Composite Video adaptor, because this means I should be able to hook my Apple TV to a TV in the bedroom that has a line in and video in connector. Better yet you could hook a device that uses HDMI to a stereo or TV that doesn't have HDMI capability. I'm sending this note to the iPhone lists because I know that folks use Apple TV with their iPhones. For those of you who are wondering, Apple TV is a small box that receives internet content such as NetFlix and Major League Baseball, and iTunes content over a high speed internet connection. It can be hooked to your internet router via Ethernet, or use WI-FI Just sharing the information I learned. GO REDS!
