I am, and have been an Android user from the beginning. Android is different than iOS. If you want to do things as you always have, you are unwilling to change your workflow, you like iOS, stick with iOS. If you come into it with curiosity, knowing that it is different, knowing that there are probably users doing what you want and solutions for what you want to do even if it involves doing those things in a different way, then Android is for you. Devon stated a number of things. He stated that TTS voices are not as high quality. This is subjective, and some of the Google TTS voices are pretty good, especially voices which have been added recently. Of course you can purchase other voices as he stated. Devon also stated that you must use headphones to silence speech. Another way to silence speech is to turn down the accessibility volume to zero. This is not ideal, we should have a silence speech option, but there is a solution which does not require the use of headphones, and an example of what I mean by changing your workflow. Devon stated that it is difficult to delete emails. I disagree. Delete is right at the top of Gmail, and other email apps have different layouts. Talkback has actions such as are found in Voiceover, and bringing up a list of actions can easily be bound to a gesture of your choosing. This is a change to your workflow, but not one which makes you unproductive, in my opinion. Voice assistant is more like iOS in that delete is available by swiping up with one finger, and with Voice assistant, double-tapping with two fingers triggers the chosen action. So again, very similar to what iOS has, except that you double-tap with two fingers instead of one. Voice assistant requires a Samsung device. Android provides users with choice, there are many different manufacturers and some add additional accessibility features, there are many external apps on the Playstore for accessibility functions or otherwise, so most likely, whatever you want to do will be probably doable, although you may have to change how you currently do it.
there are two mailing lists which I recommend you join for additional help and info about Android. antad+subscr...@googlegroups.com and eyes-free+subscr...@googlegroups.com Antad is a group which is composed of Android users who wanted their own list without moderation. The result is a list which may not stick to Android as a topic, but you can still get very helpful information there. Eyes-free group is ran by Google. It is more moderated now, and has Android as a topic of discussion. You can also search for the Antad podcast in tunein, or the podcatcher of your choice for a podcast by Android users and Google fanboys. It may be under inclusiveandroid if you cannot find it under antad podcast, but let me know if you can't find it. Here's hoping this helps.
