Ester, Transparent mode means you can hear outside sounds in addition to what you are hearing from your phone. So if you are listening to say music on your phone while in transparent mode and someone in your household asks you a question, you can hear them talking. This is the opposite of the noise cancellation mode that blocks out all external sounds. Best, Terri
