Hi  Vivian and Sallie,

The first thing that you need to check is weather Airplane Mode is not On
and you are getting proper Network coverage. If everything is good to go
then try reactivating the imessage. To do this Go to Settings > Messages >
iMessage Turn the slider OFF and ON. Also under the same scroll down and
you'll find "Send as SMS" make sure that it's ON and this is the setting
that must be ON when iMessage is unavailable or you're sending the message
to a phone other than an iphone.
Note: Carrier message rates may apply.
