Trying rebooting both devices and try again until you can. Is the Apex updated to its last firmware? As I recall, they were always difficult to get paired, but the older firmware gave you an extremely short time. Mind you, it has been several years since I did this with one I had for teaching, I just hope Apple still supports the Apex.
