Always better to go to a newer model if you can afford it and while the iPhone 8 is a good model, the XR also was a very successful and well-liked phone. If you are somebody who uses their phone for as long as possible which I assume is the case since you still have your 6S, I would say it’s probably worthwhile to spend the extra $150 and get the Xr.

The 8 should serve you fine or you could wait until April and see if the iPhone 9 is released. Hi, I am currently on an iphone 6S and want to upgrade my phone, as I have noticed performance issues since moving to IOS 13 and I want to be able to start using the Way Around tags. With an $80 trade-in value, I’m debating between the iphoen which I can get new for $369 from Apple or the iPhone XR for $519. Is the iphone XR a good model? The main reason I was thinking of spending a bit more is to stave off any planned obsolescence of the 8, but my budget would prefer the iphone 8. I can also see that the screen size is a bit bigger on the XR at 6.1 inches. I really rely mainly on VoiceOver, so the screen clarity isn’t that important, nor is the fancy camera, other than OCR capability. Yeah, battery life is nice, but I’ve managed fine with my 6S and a portable battery pack for the rare occasion I need extra power on the go. Yes, I prefer finger print reader to the idea of face ID, but I’m sure I’d adjust. With Apple stores closed, I cannot get my hands on samples and the sales guy at Verizon was really pushy, trying to shame me out of anything but the newest model. So, hoping a coupld of you smart people wouldn’t mind telling me your thoughts for budget conscious shoppers. My biggest fear is getting an iphone 8 and having similar performance issues to what I have now where, even with four bars of cell service, my emails and web pages take super long to load.
