Hey Janet,
Most of it was just not connected at all, people just talking about booze for 
no good reason in my opinion. But the connection between actual alcohol and the 
talking thermometer is that you need 70% alcohol solution to make sure that you 
have sterilized your thermometer. Kill the virus. Kill the bacteria. You need 
at least 70% alcohol to do that.
