Hi Lisa,

Turning off the phone is, of course easy since Voiceover tells you what to
do. Just in case you are unsure about this, here is what you do: Push and
hold the power button until you hear Voiceover say "Slide to power off". You
have to hold the power button about 2 or 3 seconds before this message is
spoken and then of course you just double tap anywhere. If you decide not to
shut down the phone you can flick right once and then you are on the
"Cancel" button, double tap it and it goes away. My 4S sometimes says
"iPhone shutting down" after I double tap, but more often than not I hear
just "I" as if it starts saying "iPhone shutting down" but then it's cut off
and sometimes it doesn't say anything. In any case, if you want to make sure
the phone is off, just wait 5 seconds or so and then press the Home Key or
flick the Mute switch, if pressing the home key doesn't do anything or
flicking the Mute switch to Mute doesn't make the phone vibrate it's
definitely off.

To turn the phone back on all that is required is a quick, firm push of the
power button, no need to hold it down for any length of time although
holding it for a second or so doesn't hurt. I think you are safe if you push
it and in your mind think "It's On" then let go.

Since my nephew was just here visiting I asked him to look and he said that
as soon as the power button is pressed the Apple logo comes up on the
screen. There is nothing else at all during the boot process, just the Apple
logo on the screen and as soon as my nephew said "Now it's ready" he meant
the Apple logo went away and the normal lock screen came up with the time
and date and "Slide to Unlock" at the bottom. Voiceover started talking
probably about 1 or 2 seconds after he said the lock screen was on the
screen, so it's almost instantly.

Boot time will vary depending on the phone you have. On my iPhone 4 it took
about 40 seconds if I remember correctly, on my 4S it's about 25 or 28
seconds and I just called a guy I know who works at our local store where
they sell Apple and he timed booting up an iPhone 5. It appears that the 5
boots maybe a bit faster, but not that much.

Good luck,

Sieghard
