Drafts is where a message you're composing but haven't sent yet is stored. Sent is where it's stored after you successfully send the message. These are both functions of your email provider, and you'll see these folders on your email clients server.
The outbox is where a message is kept when there's a problem sending a message. The outbox has to do with your email client and not your email provider. You won't find an out box in your Gmail or Mindspring folders, although you might find one in the Gmail app itself. Here's one of many links I found on how to get at your outbox and delete the messages in it.
