I think it does.
Plus, there are things that Alexa does better than Siri.
I've often asked Alexa and Siri the exact same question.
When Siri says, Look what I found on the web, alexa gives me the detailed 
information.

And sometimes, Siri might give a better answer.

Alexa has better (or cornier) jokes too.

I do not have an Echo device and the ap works great.
