If she is using a phone without a home button, and writing text messages, she may want to remove the extra apps from showing up at thebottom of the text message. To the left of the area where you write your text message is a button labeled Apps Visible. Double tap that, and it will change to Apps invisible and the extra apps at the bottom which she is probably activating by mistake will be gone.
When taking a picture, you can use either of the volume buttons as shutter buttons. Press it and the camera will take a picture. Much better than trying to tap on the take picture button on the screen.
