Hi Alan,

I find some widgets useful, for example, Netatmo has a widget which if I go to
my today screen gives me a quick overview of all my modules, also my bank
allows me to add whichever accounts I want so that I can see their balance on a
widget on the Today Screen.
I agree that adding a widget to the home screen makes little sense for a blind
user. I tried it just to check it out so I added the battery widget and you are
correct, it took up a 2 x 2 grid, I put it at the very top left of my screen
and usually my top two rows of apps look like this:

App Store, Calculator, Camera, Files
Home, Health, Photos, Settings

After I put the battery widget there at the top where the App Store widget was,
I then had only App Store and Calculator in the top row to the right of the
widget and I think in the second row to the right of the widget I had the first
ttwo apps of the second row, Hom e and Health.
The third row now contained the third and fourth app from the first and second
row, so it had Camera, Files, Photos and Settings.
My last row of 4 apps on home screen one was entirely pushed over to home
screen 2.
After I deleted the battery widget it still was not the way as it was before,
because now I had App Store, Calculator, Home and Health in the first row and
in the end I had to move at least 4 or 5 apps to where I had them before in
order to restore the previous look.

I could see how visually people will really like these widgets and stacks of
widgets, but I doubt it will be something which catches on with most Voiceover
users.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

I haven't gone to a share sheet since upgrading and I no longer use the native
Mail app so I can't address your issues with swiping through their various
controls. I will say that I'm not a big fan of the Today screen in iOS 14 with
its widgets. To me, widgets seem to be more of a visual feature especially when
they are stacked since it seems I'm swiping and swiping to get through one in
order to examine others on the screen. And I have no intention of moving any
widgets to any of my home screens. I believe they take up at a minimum a two by
two grid of home screen icons and I'm not willing to give up that screen real
estate. I did note that Thomas Donville of AppleVis mentioned in his podcast on
widgets that you should add containers to your rotor because they make
navigating amongst widgets easier.

Have others found that in iOS 14 the Today screen and also some other screens
like the Share sheet which comes up if you for example Share a news article are
very difficult and sometimes impossible to navigate? It seems Voiceover gets
stuck on some item and no matter what you do that is where it stays, swiping
left or right ant doesn't do anything, you can sometimes touch the screen
somewhere else to get out of that, but it's quite annoying. The same happens
if, for example, I swipe left from the first email into the search field at the
top of Mail or Messages, then I can't swipe right to get out of it any more.

An even easier way to remove a widget from the screen of widgets is to just
bring up the context menu with a triple tap on the widget and then double tap
on remove widget.

I tend to just do the same thing on the widgets screen as I do on any other
home page. In particular, I use the actions and flick down until I hear edit.
After double tapping, I find the widget I want to remove and then flick down to
delete.

I just figured out how to remkve ones you have added.
After the last widget, activate the edit button. Then, at the bottom of all
that, activate the customize button.
Then, touch the asp you want to move or remove, and flick up or down with one
finger. You will have remove, move up or move down depending on its position.
Talk about making something more complicated.
I'm not suoe I would ever want widgets on my main screen as they are wider and
taller than standard app cons and will move apps you have onto the following
screens.
My wife described them as about 1.25 inches tall, and most of the width of the
screen.

About my original question of moving widgets from Page0 to our Home screen,
maybe not all widgets can be moved. If the widget doesn’t appear within Add
Widget while editing the screen, that’s what I assumed too.

I'm not sure, but I played around with this a bit this afternoon, and from
what I can tell not every widget can be placed on a home page. I ended up just
treating these as two separate tasks. What I mean is I went into edit mode on
my home page and then I used the button at the top to select the widgets I
wanted on my first home page. Once I got the widgets I wanted, I then went to
the page before the first home page and removed the widgets I no longer needed
on that page. The widgets I ended up selecting were of the small variety, and
it looks like they take up a two by two grid on the home page. I ended up just
settling on three widgets, so I still had space for my most frequently used
apps. I'm thinking that this plus the use of the apps library will make for a
pretty efficient arrangement.

Note that the stacked widgets are interesting. They're like six widgets in one.
You can edit them to delete widgets you don't want on the stack and rearrange
the ones that are left. You can then use the context menu to cycle through the
widgets on the stack.

Hope you guys can make sense of what I?m trying to do: On what I’ll call Page 0
(what used to be Page1 before iOS14), I’ve several widgets (TuneIn Radio,
Google News), that I want to somehow drag from Page0 to Page 2, but these
don’t move! I try flicking up or down, but no actions rotor. Can’t these widgets
not be moved? Because hwen I go to Add Widgets on Page2, from within the
editing area in which one can move icons around, the widgets that I?m wanting
to move from Page0 to Page2, don’t appear within the Widgets list!
What’s going on then? Thanks for info.
