I did it on my 11, am totally blind. The guy at Wal-Mart, for some reason could not get me.
I went outside at about 3 o'clock on a sunny January afternoon, stood facing west, extended my phone out about a foot. Once it starts, VoiceOver tells you turn head slightly left, turn head to the right, move more toward center - stuff like that.
