If you look around Amazon, people have found hacks to trick the printer into bypassing the message you are out of toner. Look under the user reviews for some of the HP models. It's a common problem. The workarounds might require a little sighted assistance if you can't make out the lights on the printer. It's horrible that manufacturers find creative ways to squeeze people out of money.
