Hello,

I think that "best" depends on what you want from an Echo Dot. Music quality?
Speech quality? Price? Size?

There are 4 Echo Dots now I believe, the 1st gen, 2nd gen, and 3rd gen Dots and
the newest one just released this fall. They all can do the same functions but
with different levels of sound quality. The newest one, shaped like a baseball
instead of a hockey puck and selling for near $100, produces the best quality
sound. The 3rd gen is next best. However, if you are wanting a high end sound
system sound, the Dot Echos are not the way to go. Some of the other Echo
speakers are better for that. I find my Dot 3rd gen gives good enough quality
for my listening preferences.

Of the 4 models, Amazon is likely only selling the 3rd gen and the new one.
They often go on sale or are included with other purchase bundles from Amazon.

As for my uses, there are many. Here are a few:
- asking the date, time, weather, or news
- asking for spelling and definitions of words
- setting timers and alarms
- setting reminders for events
- playing music on request
- asking for facts and details on almost anything
- asking "how to do" type questions
- playing games like "20 questions" and many more
- running some of the over 100,000 skills that are available

These are just a sample of the things you can do with Alexa and the Echo line
of speakers. I like the Dot because they are small and can fit almost anywhere.
