Hello: Hey Rich I think you’re correct in fact I’ve never had it happen with AirPlay speakers but with Bose speakers that are Bluetooth and also echo speakers that are Bluetooth I’ve had it happen so if you can stay away from Bluetooth speakers you’re OK. But if you try to use Bluetooth speakers you should be able to reproduce the problem.

When it happens, turn the volume on your phone all the way down, until you don't hear anything. Now, turn the volume on your speaker all the way down, hit it three or four times to make sure it is all the way down. Now, start turning up the volume on your phone until the volume is what you want. Or, sometimes, you have to turn up the volume on your speaker, rather than the phone. Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Lay around with it to see if you can fix it.
