I received my Sonos Roam back in April since I preordered it and it's a very
nice speaker, sounds great as all Sonos product does, but I am still trying to
figure out what it is about the battery. If I have it fully charged and then
turn it off and I check it say 2 or 3 days later the battery seems to be almost
completely empty even if I never turned it on once. Not sure if mine has some
sort of defect, I just noticed this and I don't think if it is turned off it
should use hardly any battery. I have my Logitech Wonderboom 2 which lasts
forever and I have a relatively inexpensive Sony stereo headset which when it
says battery 70% still says the same if I turn it on 3 weeks later.
I will call Sonos next week to discuss this, but it's definitely a very nice
sounding and small speaker and you can charge it via USB-C or by placing it
vertically onto any wireless charging pad. The speaker makes a sound when you
turn it off, but it does not make one when you turn it on and I was also going
to sugges tto Sonos to implement some sort of startup sound since the on/off
button is a push button and there really is no way to tell if you pushed it
long enough, to turn it on you have to push it and hold it for just a second or
two whereas pressing it once briefly does turn the speaker off. The Roam has 4
buttons which are tactile, they are on the oposited end of the side where you
set it on the charging pad. The speaker itself is a triangle shape so if you
look at the triangle end where the buttons are, the volume up button is at the
top corner of the triangle, the volume down button is in the bottom right
corner and the Play/Pause button is in the middle in between volume up and
down. In the botton left corner is a fourth button and it's to turn the
microphone on and off and usually if I want to make sure the speaker is on I
push that button since it makes a sound when you push it, but a startup sound I
think would be useful.
I have mine setup to work with Alexa although you can also enable Google
Assistant on it, but you currently still can't have both assistants active
simultaneously. I am sure Sonos would love to do this, but it is not yet
possible.
The on/off button is on the bottom back edge next to the USB-C charging port.
The roam is water-resistant, but it's not waterproof as in where yu could throw
it into the pool or the lake like the Logitech Wonderboom and it's definitely
heavy compared to it's size and it would probably sink like a rock where the
barrel-shaped Wonderboom 2 is designed to float.
When I ordered the Roam I thought I could now maybe sell my Wonderboom 2
because I would not need two small speakers, but when I go to my woodworking
shop or outside I still find myself taking the Wonderboom 2 a lot simply
because it's so rugged, has such a long range and it has a sort of rubber loop
to which I attached a carabiner and I can clip it to a belt loop, my backpack
or whatever else is handy. The Sonos Roam has no such attachment point which I
think is a mistake and at least if they didn't want to design it with something
like that, they could have integrated a standard threaded tripod mount into
it's base, but it has nothing like that, it's completely smooth apart from an
embossed Sonos logo on the front. The triangle shape with it's rounded edges is
nice, but since it's meant to be a truly portable, go-to anywhere speaker it
would have been nice if you could have hung or mounted it somewhere.

Best regards,
Sieghard

You may want to check out the Roam from Sonos.

Subject: Water resistant bluetooth speaker?

Hi, I'm in the market for a water resistant Bluetooth speaker. I'd like the
kind where voiceover will stay on my device and not go to the speaker. It would
be a bonus if the speaker was compatible with Alexa, but that’s not a must.

Any suggestions?

So far Sound Core speakers look pretty cool. Also I read about a magnetic,
expandable one from POW.

Thanks for your input,
Traci
